I believe in the importance of robust traceability through vertical supply chains.
Being able to quickly capitalize on trends – whatever they may be – is critical.
I see blockchain as a tool to keep accountability in interconnected supply chain data sets. It isn’t the only tool – but I see it as one of the better ones for integration between many parties.
Who will pay for it?
An immensely important question. Asking the consumer to pay for it directly is unreasonable. They will pay for the product that has the attributes they want – but they won’t pay more for one product than another because any certain tech was implemented. The immediate benefit is for the supply chain. Consumer experience should follow. It’s a strategic, albeit somewhat difficult to quantify investment for business to make.
Robust traceability (blockchain or otherwise) is the rails that carry the information and value up and down the supply chain track.
Businesses (and supply chains) that adjust current business practices and tools to allow for this rails mentality will be the winners in the long term as they are able to maintain robust and resilient supply chains.
